Denied desires or dashed dreams?
Cowardice or courage?
Decisive or desperate?
Should I fill up the blanks?
With reasons and suppositions, as if I can ever know
Why you hung up and walked away to
A hoped-for place, or away from the hopeless?

What keeps the eyes moist and heavy?
Should I grieve?
Amidst bewilderment and confusion,
Comes, the wails of music—
I meet sorrow, not sadness of this or that loss.
Beyond the world of words, a melancholic raft
With fleeting images of what has passed.

Will it be
That with time, we will encounter more—
Those genial sons and daughters
With unspoken dreams and unspeakable pain
Inhabiting secret worlds, mouthing cryptic refrain
Who don't live a full term as we desire
But leave their essence, and much to aspire.
