Be kind to your body, a wondrous gift,
An inheritance and an investment—
your dream’s vehicle.

Acknowledge every thought and feeling that arises within
without attachment or disapproval—
because it arises in you.

Take responsibility for intention and action,
As they arise in you as choice or response—
They too are you.

Let not outcomes determine what you own,
or distance yourself, hurl blame, and bemoan—
for they don’t define you.

You are not the anchor or the refuge,
Others’ dumping ground or the graveyard of your desires—
You are the unbounded spaciousness.

Be wary of trespassers and guests.
The thoughts and self-criticisms overstaying their welcome—
You, the housekeeper of your inner yard.

You are a visitor; don’t delude yourself.
About permanent residence and happily ever after—
Remember only the ever present.

You have shopped for recipes with interest
and stacked sermons and platitudes, instead, (not knowing)—
It is a Seeker’s path to tread.

Well said, Naren! Your first two lines made me pause – I had to read them over again, for they resonated deeply. The “inheritance” of the body is indeed a gift, but my “investment” in it has been sporadic at best. It is a testament to the “inheritance” that the body still chugs along! Your prose poem renewed my awareness of the need to invest in the body *and* the other parts of my self. Thank you.
