I walked my phone for an hour
It came along. A daily routine
Secure in my pocket, tracking my moves
Grown up these few years, bigger now
More pretty and much smarter,
Sharp eyes and bluetooth
Touch sensitive to boot.

But, like all good things in life,
Come cautionary signs—
The craze to be slim
To be all manner of things
To capture attention
Vain with a claim:
Best shot wherever you aim.

A shameless flatterer
Doling out editable selfies
Postponing the inevitable
Dark lines and weighed down cheeks.

Aah. A vibration in my shorts
Delivers a message. Or is it a call?
Such is anticipation
I grab and nearly fall.
